Central Department of Geology was established in 1967 under the Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) of Tribhuvan University with an aim of producing highly skilled personnel and experts in the field of geological sciences. The department is the only institution of higher education in geology in Nepal. The department conducts both MSc and Ph D programmes.

I am proud to introduce you to Central Department of Geology (CDG). Founded in 1967, CDG has earned an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching.
CDG's facilities provide a resource and information centre for prospective students, as well as a campus for M.Sc. programs. Teaching at CDG is closely related to scholarly research, with the result that most teaching is undertaken by academics who are at the forefront of relevant knowledge. Our reputation also rests on the quality of its graduates.

Admission
M. Sc. Program
An applicant seeking admission to M. Sc. Geology must hold a B. Sc. degree in Geology and appear in an entrance examination. There are thirty (30) seats available in the first year. In second year the total number of available seats are divided into three different specialised fields as per the demand and availability of seats allocated by the subject committee in each section namely, Natural Resources Studies; Mapping and Analysis; and Engineering Geological Techniques.
